Hello there. Apologies if this has been asked before. I intend to purchase a Raspberry Pi purely for Amiga emulation, and was wondering if there are any benefits to getting a Pi 4 in terms of performance? Perhaps less lag or something similar? I am aware that there aren't many builds for the Pi 4 just yet.
Thanks.
Currently, the only real full support for Amibian (i.e. 1.4.1001) is on the Raspberry Pi 3B+ and lower (it will technically work on the RPi Zero but crashes a lot and is slooooooow).
If you are looking to future proof and want to wait for Amibian 1.5 (still in development) or want to manually install UAE (Amiga Emulator program) via Linux Command Line, then you could go for the RPi4. If you're doing that, I would recommend to go for the 4GB model (highest model available). If you want to do stuff now (i.e. Workbench OS and play games easily), then get the RPi3B+. It's pretty stable and works full speed on most everything classic Amiga (i.e. 68K processor-type). As an aside: If you are wanting to run any kind of Power-PC based software or OS, such as MorphOS, AmigaOS 4.0/4.1 and any of the newer games, Amibian and Linux builds do not support PPC currently. The only way to do that would be via "UAE 4 Windows" or Amiga Forever. Additionally, if you have a Windows machine that isn't ancient you can always just get Amiga Forever and play stuff on your PC.
Purchasing "Amiga Forever" is recommended either way, as it's one of the few ways to get "legal" copies of the ROMs (i.e. 1.3, 2.0.4, 3.0, and 3.1 chipset ROMs) as well as the ADF (Amiga floppy images) of the installation Workbench disks (required if you want to install the Workbench OS).
