So long story short I saw some a couple items on GitHub that had been updated since my Amibian 1.5 install. So from the config menu I ran the option to update and upgrade. Took quite awhile to run, lots of updates. Restarted the system and it won't let me run the Amibian menu. Type "menu" and it says "./show_menu.sh: Permission denied" I typed "su -l" and typed in the 1234 password and the prompt shows: "root@amibian:~#" so I thought that should give me access to everything but still get that message when typing "menu"
So the menu script in /usr/local/bin calls the show_menu script in /home/amibian/.amibian_scripts So I looked at the permissions for those files and all of the .sh files are owned by "root" and the permissions are: -rw-r--r-- The rest of the files in that directory are owned by "amibian" and the permissions are: drwxrwxrwx and it allows me to run those with no problem.
So that was a long way to go to ask if the permissions of the script files have anything to do with me not being able to run them? I am a newbie when it comes to Linux so this is where I am pretty much stuck now. Oh, wait. Just tried changing the file permission of show_menu.sh with: chmod a+x to give execute permission to everyone and now it runs. So it looks like I will have to change the permissions of all the files to get the menu options running. Weird, when I take option 2 for the Amibian Desktop it is a completely different GUI ... looks like the PIXEL GUI.
Guess my question is: WTH happened when I ran the updates? I'll play around with changing permissions and see if I can get this operational again.
BTW, the ironic part of all this . . . I did the update to get the updated version of piclone because when I ran the "SD Card Copier" from the Amibian Desktop I got the error "Cannot create file system" or something like that. I was worried if the SD card crashed I would have to start all over again. I did manually backup my Amiga directory onto a USB drive so if I do have to start again with this at least I won't have to set up my Workbench and software installs again . . . I hope . . .
Thanks for listening!
